Dear Police, People are angry. They are furious. They are - TopicsExpress

Dear Police, People are angry. They are furious. They are taking to the streets, blocking folks from getting home to loved ones, screaming, protesting, looting, breaking laws... because they are angry. I have been watching this all unfold and I want to chime in too. Just because you all put on a uniform and go out every single day and protect the citizens of our communities from criminals - you think youve earned some kind of respect? Wow. Okay- so you are shot at. Spit on. Disrespected. That should matter to any of us? Just because you CHOSE to do this job we owe you some kind of loyalty? No one asked any of you to put on that badge. No one asked you to maybe not come home at the end of a shift. I watch things develop today like the hostage situation in Australia or the five people murdered in PA and what is the one thing both situations have in common- a world away from each other? POLICE. YOU all decided to show up and fight the bad guys and for that the public is supposed to honor you?!?!?! Didnt honor that officer shot in Baltimore last night, did we? You think we should care when it was THE COPS idea to initiate that traffic stop to begin with? You seriously expect us to all be proud of you and grateful?? Well, guess what. I expect that too. Many of us still do. Thank you for CHOOSING to put your lives on the line. I, for one, am sorry that gone are the days of the public respecting the badge or what it means. I am sorry that teenagers think its cool to intentionally piss you off and keep aggravating officers to make a cool You Tube video. Im sorry so many people watch it and then share it like they are doing some civic duty. I too notice that there arent those videos made of criminals committing crimes - only Police being dared to react to ignorance, belligerence, and blatant disrespect for our laws and those who VOLUNTEER to uphold them. I am sorry that it seems as if the ones in the streets represent the way we all feel. See, the thing is- we are not taking off work, skipping exams and using these events as excuses, breaking store windows, encouraging animosity between the races, or spreading hate. Were at work furious that another cop has been shot. Furious that you are not recognized for all the bravery you show every day. We are instead, taking ten minutes from our lunch break to tell you---- we support you. Thank you. Be safe. Signed, More of Us Than You Realize
