Dear President Kenyatta, With due respect, all protocols - TopicsExpress

Dear President Kenyatta, With due respect, all protocols observed. Somalis in Kenya be they Kenyan Somalis, Ethiopian Somalis, Djiboutian Somalis or Somalia Somalis would like to share the following with you and your government; That the Cushitic People have occupied the territory now known as Kenya for centuries before the Bantu, Nilotes, Asian and Caucasian Kenyans ever did. That we Somalis are highly social beings who due to our land’s climatic condition and age old lifestyle are highly mobile and for that matter Nomadic in nature. That we are bold and bear a characteristic aggressiveness in life and business that makes us as productive, if not more, as the Kikuyus of Kenya which is sometimes viewed as being a proud and arrogant community by our fellow Africans. President Kenyatta, given our strong social character and our business acumen, we the Somali are the envy of many and more so the enterprising Kikuyus and Asian business people who view us with a deep seated distrust. Our strong adherence to the religion Al-Islam makes us seem a threat to Christianity, Judaism and Asian religions. Despite marginalization, we the Somali people are excelling and thriving in Africa, Northern America, Europe, Middle East and most importantly, right here home here in Kenya. We have survived and will continue surviving! We have hundreds of examples of Somali individuals who have served Kenya selflessly and exemplarily holding high ranking positions in past and current regimes, including your current Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs and your present Senior Advisor on Constitutional matters. Mr. President Sir, despite being the most loyal, transparent and committed public workers In Kenya, we are yet to be trusted and viewed just as any other Kenyan citizens. The happenings this week in Nairobi’s Eastleigh, the foul and putrid comments from other Kenyan leaders has led us to re-think our resolve of being Kenyan. Like Southern Sudanese who out of the marginalization suffered under the North opted to wage an armed struggle against the North, the Somalis of Kenya, going by this trend might sooner or later opt for secession due to alienation by other Kenyans who with each passing day continually see us as a band of evil parasites who should be gotten rid off. The negative ethno phobic expressions against the Kenyan Somalis has been extended with ruthlessness to our Somali brethren who sought refuge in Kenya after their country got destabilized by the post-cold war western mess in Africa. Curiously, Non-Somali Kenyans do not project the same form of hatred against the Ethiopian, Sudanese, Congolese and other Non-Somali refugees in Kenya today. Government security arms seem to specialize in Somali dehumanization, subjugation, extortion, rape, torture and killings. It’s quite disheartening when Kenyan Somalis get punished for all alleged acts of terror by the Al-qaeda and their off-shoot the Al-Shabaab, just because the Al-Shabaab are Somalia based, without caring that the Somali refugees in Kenya have also run away from these same terror groups with more heinous attacks committed by the terror groups in Somalia than anywhere else. Mr. President, you should not forget we have many Kikuyus, Kambas, Luos, Mji Kenda and Luhya in the rank and file of the Al-shabaab, thought unfortunately the Kenyan Somalis bear the brunt of security operations! It’s quite obvious that Kenyan Somalis will never be accepted in your country as citizens if you, President Uhuru Kenyatta can four decades down the line accelerate the hatred and terror your late father Mzee Jomo Kenyatta inflicted upon the Somalis through massacres and putting them in deadly concentration camps just for the simple reason that they wanted self-determination. Indeed the reasons for secession are even stronger and justified now. We therefore strongly ask the Somali people in Kenya to start deliberating over their future. Mr. President, the sooner you take a strong position devoid of self and myopic interest, the better. I will definitely be in the front line to liberate the Kenyan Somalis from this unwarranted neo-colonialism so discriminately hanging over their heads! Consider yourself warned Mr. President.
