Dear Rand Paul: 06-26-13 My name is Elizabeth Cisco. I am a person living with mental illness and dealing with life on the Autistic Spectrum. I was also raised for 15 ½ years by the government you want to lead. Consequently, I have a few questions. These questions are not just for me, but for all people experiencing a debilitating mental or physical condition, and more broadly, all persons dependant on government subsidies for survival and quality of life. Libertarians do not believe in a large Federal Structure. They do not believe that a person’s income should be over-burdened by taxes. They believe in freedom of choice, and self-sufficiency. I also agree with these goals, but I feel compelled to ask what you intend to do with those of us for whom there is no other recourse? I receive $710 in the form of an automatic deposit from the SSA every month. This covers most of my needs, though I still must find some help to make ends meet. I receive free health-care that has been integral to my survival and recovery, though in Washington State, like many others, the care does not include my glasses until I become legally blind in both eyes. All of this, and my food benefits that allow me access to the Traditional diet of my ancestors, come from a variety of bills and taxes from the local communities up to the Federal Level. I am now in remission from Bi Polar Disorder. I am considered Recovered from Borderline Personality Disorder. I had a really messed up life, which I would gladly elaborate on the exact nature of if I thought it would help, and those programs that I was a part of, as well as many privately funded ones were essential in my becoming a productive member of society. What will you do with the people like me? I think, in essence, Mr. Paul, this is a philosophical issue. Do you, in your journey through this world, have a responsibility to your fellow man? If you believe, as I think you may, that charity should not be coerced, how do you propose to maintain or improve the level of services and care for those in need without using some type of Federal Tax system? How will a government run by your party take care of people like us? Thank you for your time and I look forward to a response of some kind. I invite you, any in your party, and any interested party to begin a dialogue on this matter. Please, give it some thought. Those like me have much to contribute to the rest, if we are given a chance to not only survive, but blossom on the rocky, barely fertile soil we landed upon. Sometimes, we even bear fruit. Thanks again, Elizabeth A. Cisco
