Dear Randall, According to a recent report, special interest - TopicsExpress

Dear Randall, According to a recent report, special interest groups -- led by groups backed by the billionaire Koch brothers -- have spent more to buy the 2014 elections than they did at this point in the 2012 elections. Here’s the most concerning part of this: 2012 was a presidential election year. Traditionally, groups spend more during a presidential race to sway voters. But thanks in part to Citizens United and other decisions, their spending has gotten out of control. Our elections are becoming a special interest free-for-all. It is high time Congress take action to reverse the disastrous effects Citizens United is having on our democratic process. Today I’m joining with a few of my colleagues to gather support for a constitutional amendment to roll back the tide of Koch-backed, special interest spending in elections. Add your name right now by clicking here. Elections aren’t auctions. The Kochs shouldn’t be able to buy U.S. Senate seats for their allies. We have a democracy by the people, for the people. And that’s “by” spelled b-y, not b-u-y. Our elections are not for sale. Citizens United and the subsequent McCutcheon decision have stripped away essential safeguards that were intended to keep fairness, accountability, and transparency in our election process. It’s time get them back. Join me and my colleagues in supporting a constitutional amendment to reverse the effects of Citizens United. Sign your name. Thank you for joining me today.
