Dear Reading Residents, I was going to refrain from saying anything about the infamous or rather famous ugly tree installed by our city... But I attended the ceremony this evening and I was impressed by the great turnout, it was beautiful to see so many people come out to celebrate regardless of how horribly sad the tree looks.. As I stood there with my kids and Noah Ayala and Leira Arguinzoni I realized the tree symbolizes precisely what this city is perceived to be: BROKEN and hopeless and scary!! Yet there we were in large numbers, all ages, diverse, vibrant, safe community with potential to be greater than what it appears to be. The 200+ children from the school district entertained us with their holiday songs, everyone was supportive, singing and dancing to the point that the tree became irrelevant. As I looked at the tree I saw so much potential in making it look nice, we could add branches, cut the droopy ones, cover it with more lights, ornaments, ribbons, etc... I look at our city and community the same way, at potential !! Lets not get caught up on an ugly tree people, lets not allow this to continue dividing our community!! Lets learn to work together and collectively beautify our city and improve our economy. We should have all came together and taken care of that tree prior to the ceremony. In unity there is strength!! Together we can and we will!!! Thanks Charles Broad, Cindy Kauffman for sticking with tradition and not letting an ugly tree ruin the festivities...a shout out to the children and teachers of the elementary schools who prepared those children to perform... The tree nor the weather got in their way. The ice sculpture of Olaf from movie frozen was phenomenal as well!! DJ special D was on point as usual! I have hope in our city and its potential!! I love my community and my city!!! Happy Holidays to everyone and dont let that ugly tree ruin your day... Lets use that energy towards making our city better, fruitful, positive, productive and profitable!!
