Dear Residents of Milnerton Ridge Thanks to those who made the time to attend last Thursdays Milnerton Ridge Neighbours Meeting. An estimated 40 people came along and we had quite a productive - albeit long 😄 - discussion around moving forward to making our suburb safer. There was a good show of hands of the people who are willing and able to contribute towards the new cameras and it shouldnt be long before the first set(s) can be commissioned. One resident is sponsoring a complete pole outside his home, and about 20 or more put their hands up to pledge R1000 towards the pool for the first required amounts of R21k (server and infrastructure upgrade), and R14k for a pair of cameras. It was agreed that this pool would address the need for cameras being put up in the identified hot spots. We also had some responses from people who couldnt attend the meeting after I sent a brief update of the meeting via the Whatsapp groups. Another suggestion was made in that groups of houses get together and collect the necessary R14k for a pole with pair of cameras which would address the immediate area. Of particular concern are the 8 entrances from the vlei into the Ridge. Cynthia Earl from Crimewatch has agreed to coordinate the collection of funds and will give me regular feedback on how much is in the kitty and when the cameras will be purchased and installed, and I will pass this info on to you all. Anyone who is willing to contribute the said once off of R1000 (or more!) can either contact us via this page or Cynthia on 0860500005. Monthly contributors are also required for the ongoing maintenance and monitoring of these cameras. Although the suggested amount is R170 per month, even a R50 contribution is welcome - every cent counts! All residents inclusive of tenants are encouraged to participate in this project, although it goes without saying that there is no pressure - everyone has a budget they need to work with, especially this time of the year. There are other ways that one can contribute other than financially. We briefly discussed the Whatsapp groups and asked that all participants please refrain from chatting, i.e. Alerts only and no lols, thanks, shame, goodness me, emoticons or the like to be broadcast. We have a social group and you can express your gratitude or horror in that group. Also, if there is an issue in your area, let all know whereabouts you are and if you have called the relevant service provider so that people can respond appropriately. The general consensus was that people driving through the stop streets - which they do regularly and is a great source of irritation to most of us - is an emergency unless of course, theres an accident and people need assistance. Yes, there is an accident waiting to happen but we need to find another way to address this. I personally have logged a C3 on the City of Cape Town website to replace said stop streets with bumps in the road as at the corner of Milnerton Drive and Fairview Crs. Maybe if other people follow suit something might come of it. The last topic discussed was the NHW requirement for a new Chairman and Secretary. I have already posted a separate update on this topic, so nothing further to add. Wouter and Marguerite have once again agreed to host the next meeting on 2 December and hopefully we can discuss other issues that concern us. I will send out reminders closer to the time.
