Dear Richard, This week, the world celebrates International Womens Day and the power of girls and women. The evidence is clear: Investing in girls and women is one of the best ways to achieve our global development goals, from ending poverty to improving health to strengthening education. Kathy Calvin IWD video While weve seen a lot of progress for girls and women, there is still work to be done. One issue that doesnt get enough attention is birth registration. When a girl doesnt receive a birth certificate, it has reverberations throughout her life. Its harder for her to go to school, get a job, own property, and access social services. The Girls Count Act of 2013 has been introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives to address this issue head on.
