Dear SJ buddies, after some break, I am back with my SJ song of the day. My pick today is the classical pinnacle Sooni Sooni saans from Lal Pathar in 1971 Asha tai lived under the shadow of Lata ji for so long, and was pretty much not considered for classical songs by any MDs. Sooni Sooni saans is a testament that she was if not better then at least as good as the contemporary film singers. Sooni Sooni is based on raag jaijaiwanti. There are conflicts about the lyricist but if we stick to Wikipedia then it mentions Kavi Neeraj (though Hasrat ji has been mentioned at some places too). The song is remarkable and has always been used to compare with Lata jis Manmohana (Seema 1965) Personally I think no one would have been able to do what Asha tai has done in this song, particularly the 3rd taan that she takes.
