Dear Sir/ Madam, I am deeply concerned and writing about the case of my husband NIAZ AZIZ who was arrested/ or abducted with his car on 5th of January 2012 on his way to work in Pirmam (Masif Salahadin) Erbil by the PARASTIN – the Kurdistan Security Agency. I understand he is in poor health, and has been held without charge for more than one year and six months. My husband (NIAZ AZIZ) was working as an employee in the Politburo of Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) as well as he has been working as Journalist. In 2011, the LVIN Magazine published an article disclosing the KDP made vote frauds in the elections. Twelve (12) days following the issuing the article, when NIAZ was going to his work in the Politburo of Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) in Pirmam (Masif Salahadin) near Erbil, he was arrested and abducted with his car by the group from The PARASTIN – the Kurdistan Security Agency and was disappeared for three (3) months. He was put in the Solitary Confinement for one month and being beaten, psychologically and physically tortured for a long time. Currently, he is being put in the Anti-Terror jail in the General Security Office with a very poor condition. No one is allowed to see him except his brothers and myself. Although my husband (Niaz) has been an active member of Kurdistan Journalists Syndicate, they denied supporting him and ignored his case. Due to the bad condition of the jail as well as the physical and psychological torture Niaz has been on hanger strike since 22nd June 2013. So far, no prison-administered medical treatment has been offered to him. He was told by the Head of the detention center that the hanger strike does work and they do not care Because of that he is in a very bad health and his condition been in my last visit to him. Mystery still surrounds the case of Niaz. He has not been charged and the authorities have not set a trial date, though they have detained him more than a year and six months. Currently, Niaz is in a very poor health because of his hanger strike. Although I am pretty sure that he has not committed any offence, I am asking the interior ministry / Kurdistan Regional Government to investigate, and appropriately prosecute Niaz. It would be appreciated if you use your influence and authority to ensure that he receives medical treatment and that he is charged and promptly brought to court or released. If accused of a genuine crime, he must be trialed fairly, in accordance with international standards. If innocent he should be released. On no account must he be tortured.
