Dear Warramunga Families, You may be wondering why it has been a little quiet over the last few days? Perhaps wondering if we have been working so hard that we had forgotten about you! Of course not, there is a reason why you have not heard much from your loved ones of late. As I mentioned in my first email to you all, I will inform you if there is a significant event that has involved the ship or where our Operational Security must be maintained, and it has. As you wake up on your Sunday morning you may read in the paper that we were involved in a fairly extensive Search And Rescue (SAR) for a vessel that has gone missing in the vicinity of Christmas Island. This SAR involved Warramunga, 2 Merchant Ships, 2 Maritime Patrol aircraft from the Royal Australian Air Force and a Coast Watch aircraft. This is why we have had restricted communications leaving the ship and why we have been unable to touch base with our loved ones at home. We have however, received your emails and they are keeping us going with a smile on our face. Today has not been an easy task and you will see and hear things tomorrow on the television and on-line about what has gone on. Everyone is doing an outstanding job. They are focused and doing us and your navy proud. I could not be prouder having worked with and for your loved ones throughout these challenging and rewarding times. You can be proud of the work that they are doing. I will talk soon with further updates on our adventures and provide some photos of what is going on. Thank you for your continued support. Yours Sincerely, Yours Aye, D.J.TIETZEL, CSM CMDR, RAN Commanding Officer HMAS WARRAMUNGA "Courage In Difficulties"
