Dear Women, We have come along way in this race for social equality however the war is not over! In the words of a friend who I respect dearly ,Pain and Control are both aphrodisiacs to the sick. It was recently brought to my attention of an abolished practice called “Ancient Chinese Foot Binding” which consisted of families breaking the toes and arch of their 6-year old daughters to reduce the size of the foot by 50%, as a form of beauty “Lotus Feet”. Really, a 3 inch foot! After the toes were broken, they were tucked underneath the soles of the feet and held in place by bandages. Many woman died due to infection and the survivors were left to suffer from unspeakable arthritis. 3 Million Women were said to have deformed feet. Thank God this practice was abolished with the help of Western Civilization and Feminists between 1911-1950s. You can also find Chinese foot binding referenced in the movie “Marco Pollo” on Netflix.
