Dear all It is with a heavy heart that Hands Around the Wrekin - TopicsExpress

Dear all It is with a heavy heart that Hands Around the Wrekin have to announce that we have had to withdraw from the Cracker attempt at Wellington Christmas lights switch on this weekend. This decision was not made lightly but rest assured it is a postponement not a cancellation. Unfortunately as you will see from the link attached another area in the Country were planning to do this attempt on the 6th of December and have 2500 crackers at their disposal. When we looked at doing this event our intention was to break that elusive 6th bucket list wish made up by Georgia Williams, the world record attempt has twice eluded the Georgia Williams trust and eluded us too back in September. We know only too well how disappointed people were that we didn’t achieve the record in September and this was a bitter pill for us too given all the sleepless nights and endless planning. We had hoped to beat the current record which was below 1000 in Wellington this weekend but having learnt of Aberdeens’ intention things unfortunately took a turn. It’s not about the crackers, we have enough to beat their current total but having sat down and conducted a calculation of space available exit and fill plans and Health and Safety considerations we have had to concede that there would not be appropriate space to challenge the planned 2500 target set by Aberdeen. It’s fair to say that they have visit Scotland and undoubted media coverage but we are not intimidated by this. We made a vow to break at least one world record in honour of Georgia and we fully intend to fulfil this promise before focusing our efforts on promoting Community cohesion next year through various community events. In order to do this we do not have the financial muscle or media clout attracted by large a large city such as Aberdeen or Birmingham but what we do possess is a blinding faith in our community and a belief that if we punch smart we will deliver on this record. We believe any record attempt at Wellington on Saturday would be thwarted by Aberdeen, armed with this knowledge and in the interests of all those wanting to set a world record we felt it was only right that cancelled the attempt to allow us the best possible chance of beating any future challengers. On Saturday the 20th of December we are hopeful of taking this challenge and the Cracker pull attempt to AFC Telford which of course was held close to Georgias heart. We hope you will attend the game and not only support your local team but assist us in taking on the big cities who have for too long held far too much influence over little towns like ours. We believe these records belong to our Georgia but we can’t do it without you. More news will follow, we will still be assisting at the lights switch on in Wellington and will also be distributing leaflets for the future attempt. https://pressandjournal.co.uk/fp/news/aberdeen/402826/christmas-cracker-record-attempt-to-take-place-in-aberdeen/
