Dear colleagues, At the last meeting of the Equity Executive, - TopicsExpress

Dear colleagues, At the last meeting of the Equity Executive, the main item on the agenda was the tripartite meeting held on the 21st of May, which was convened as a response to the motion passed at last years AGM. This represents the commencement of a process, which will be monitored closely by the executive on behalf of the membership. As you will be aware from the joint statement, attached, SIPTU have put in place a plan. The Executive will now discuss and establish the strategy and resources in which to achieve progress on the issues contained in the ‘Plan’. These include; A) The competition Act. B) Agreements- priority renegotiation of television and film agreements. C) Resources- including, dedicated staff, office space, budget, expert legal advice re Film and TV agreements. All of these are to be achieved within an agreed specified time frame. To this end a working party consisting of Padraig Murray (President), Karan O’Loughlin (Arts and Culture sector organiser, SIPTU), Stephen Spence (Deputy General Secretary, Equity UK) and Louis Rolston (Equity Council member NI) has been established. The first meeting will be convened on the 25th June at the English Speaking group meeting of the Intenational Federation of Actors, at the American Equity offices in New York. We wish to assure our members that the motion as passed at the AGM, on the 2nd of September 2012, is still very much ‘on the table’. SIPTU and Equity (UK) have engaged in the process and have promised to make available all of the resources necessary to our Executive, to bring about a resolution that will be acceptable to current and future members of our union. This Executive is dedicated to rebuilding Equity in Ireland as a vibrant union for performers, which will have instant access to the best advice and negotiating skills available, and that these assets will be made readily available to them to enable them to pursue their careers in the full knowledge that their rights are being protected, no matter where that expertise may reside. The Executive Committee meet again this coming Thursday. We will communicate with you again early next week. Best Wishes, Pádraig & Gerry. on behalf of Equity Executive.
