Dear everyone that is posting about Irish Water, etc. I - like you - am unhappy with this situation we find ourselves in. However. Theres basically no point in ranting and raving about it online. Theres no point in posting nonsensical/conspiratorial plans on how to get out of paying. Theres also - sadly - very little point in suggesting that we should all rise up, etc. Why? Two reasons: 1. Were not all going to rise up. In case you havent noticed, all rising up isnt a thing modern Ireland does. Dont waste your time pretending otherwise. 2. Even if thousands did rise up it wouldnt work. the politicians are NOT scared of you. They know you have very few people to vote for and none of the major parties are going to reverse the water rates, are they? You have no meaningful options - and they know it. So is there nothing to do? There is of course. You can either pay your water rates (or live with a trickle) OR you can find a rich benefactor or three to fund a proper media campaign. Theres one thing politicians are afraid of: the media. Scare enough politicians and you might get somewhere, but the only way is with the media, and the only way to do that is to pay to promote your viewpoint. All the rubbish in the media now (i.e. so and so is complaining about water rates) isnt a media campaign. Its just a click bait to raise advertising revenue by latching onto a story that people are vaguely passionate about at the moment. Id suggest AT LEAST 5-10K a month for a budget. You also need a banner to operate under, a set of demands, and credible spokespeople. Any other plan is a waste of your time. Oh and hey, if you dont send your application back, you wont get out of a bill, though you COULD EASILY end up with a larger bill as theyre just going to guess how to assess you and god knows theyll probably screw that up in their favour. One more thing - videos of some loudmouth fighting in the street with an Irish Water employee isnt inspirational to anyone but hooligans and anarchists. And egging on violence, then acting shocked when the police are there to protect Irish Water employee from said violence makes you look dishonest. At best. No sane person would protest dodgy mortgage practices by slashing the tires of their local bank teller. Irish Water employees are the messenger and we all know how clever it is to attack the messenger.
