Dear floorball enthusiasts, It has been a long time coming; here are some updates from the Malaysian Floorball Association: The Malaysian Floorball Association (MFA) has been officially approved as the national body for floorball in Malaysia by the Sports Commissioner’s office on the 25th of October 2013; MFA is also now re-recognized by the IFF with the previous international sanctions lifted as of October 2013. Later in 2013, we made a huge effort to participate in the SEA Games, even though we did not receive any support from the government. The treatment we received from OCM was appalling, yet we were there in Myanmar. The team preparations was not ideal, as we were unsure about making the trip up to around 3 days to departure – unfortunately, there were no proper trials nor proper training session – but that was about the best that we could manage. Special mention goes out to Khalid, Gary, Aweng, Jade and a number of others that made the last minute trip possible. It was important to be in Myanmar as it was only with us coming that the floorball event was confirmed. With the successful hosting of the demonstration sport, it was easier to make floorball a medal sport in the Singapore SEA games. The MFA has also managed to convince MASUM to send men and ladies teams to the WUFC in Singapore this June. Thanks to Aweng and Khalid for preparing the paperwork to push the matter through. MASUM have sent in the registration forms and paid the ridiculously expensive participation fees. They have appointed UTM to organize the teams’ participation. There will be an open selection very soon, the dates and venue of which will be announced shortly. Those under the age of 28 are eligible, provided you have a valid student card – from any KPM registered IPTA, IPTS, College or Polytechnic. Those whom are eligible by age but are not students are advised to quickly register at your local community college to get a valid student card. The MFA will also be holding our landmark first AGM on the 26th of April at 2pm in Kuala Lumpur. Each of the four active states will be sending 3 official representatives. We will be electing the central board members and discussing the direction of floorball in Malaysia. Get in touch with your state associations for more details. Finally, on another positive note the floorballmalaysia website is up and running again after a hiatus of nearly 5 years – thanks to Gary for grinding it out. Please bear with us, it is still under development – we welcome anyone that can help us with making it better. Also, a group of players will be having a special demonstration session during a Special Olympics seminar on the 11th of April at the Pullman Hotel, Jalan Pantai, from 3pm to 5pm – feel free to come to show your support. There has been tremendous floorball development in Malaysia this past year, keep up the good work! That’s all for now. Rizal Razman Interim President Malaysian Floorball Association
