Dear friends, Great news - the builders are in and the transformation of the old Bevendean Pub into “so much more than a pub” has begun. But we need your help again. Unfortunately we still need around £70,000 to open, in addition to the £200,000 we have already raised. Why is this when we told you it would only cost £200,000? There are a number of reasons. The building is in a worse state than originally thought, the cost of everything has gone up since the original budget was devised. We have also been hit with extra work that we now have to do to pass planning requirements. We also want to make sure the building has the WOW factor and that all the ideas and wishes of local residents are put in place. We only get one chance to get it right and we don’t want to blow that, which is why we’re asking people to invest once again. When it’s open The Bevy is going to be a fantastic place to meet and socialise. It’s also going to be an amazing place to work, giving people training and job opportunities, so we are fully committed to paying our staff the living wage. So we have re-opened our shares again and are asking people to once again invest in this ground breaking community project. Shares will be available until 5th April 2014. We already have more shareholders than any other co-op pub in the UK, which shows how much people value the idea of The Bevy. As a shareholder you’ll get the buzz of being part of something groundbreaking PLUS you will also get occasional discount nights as well as the chance to help choose the beer we sell in the pub! Once a month we will showcase different and unusual beers for people to sip and judge, along with a chance to chew the Bevy fat. Shares are just £10 and you can buy as many as you’d like – the more you buy, the faster we’ll be open for business! Dont forget you may also qualify for the Seed Enterprise Investment Scheme; where if you invest £100 you can claim half back in tax relief. Please contact us for details about this.
