Dear friends: The cost of GOSSIP. It is with sadness that I share this with you. Having recently become a widower, I am sincerely grateful to everyone whom is showing me loving kindness and support. However: Recently I made friends with a very kind couple, whom like many others, were helping me to overcome my grief by befriending me and talking with me daily. Although the couple live in another country in the British Isles and it was via "Skype" I spoke to both the gentleman and the lady. It was mostly the lady who spoke with me. The lady had lost both her parent soon after each other and therefore understood the grief of losing a loved one. Now, comes the sad part. People in the church that the couple attend started to gossip about the friendship and the fact it was the lady who mostly spoke with me. This is the result of their gossip. Because the gentleman and I are both priesthood holders we do not only have to be above reproach, we have to be seen to be above reproach. Having prayed and spoken to our local bishops, it has been decided it best to terminate our friendship. I feel so sad our friendship has made these people feel the way they do and I pray for their forgiveness.
