Dear friends We are happy to invite you to a new camp in Italy. IT-SCI 4.10. Grottaglie - Pet Therapy. strat date: 22/08 end date: 02/09 Introduction: The "Autonomy house at Smiling park" is a project of the Territorial Rehabilitation Unit of Health Department of Taranto at Grottaglie. In the past we decided to implement a new ecological and holistic rehabilitation program based on the person and his environment. With green therapy, like therapeutic garden, dolphin therapy and the other animal assisted therapy, mostly dogs and donkeys living in the smiling park. This year was created inside the park an" autonomy house ", for independent life of disabled people, a self organized space with the supervision of psychologists and educators. Type of Work: The focus of this year workcamp is the independent life of young people with disabilities living together with the volunteers inside the "autonomy house" at the Smiling park. The work will mainly be living together with them, to share autonomy life in the "autonomy house", live together the experience of full immersion with donkeys in a natural context or with newfoundland dogs at the sea. Moreover, all together there will be some work the maintenance of the park, working to repair the paths for the wheels chairs, the animal ranch and the areas for the interaction between animals and people. Study Theme: The study part will be on Animal Assisted educational and therapeutic programs, about the occupational therapy with the animals and the independent life models for people with disabilities improving participation and environmental facilities. Accommodation: The volunteers will sleep in the "autonomy house" with bedroom, kitchen and wc (sleeping bag is needed). If they prefer, volunteers can bring their tents to stay in the park. The shower and other wc are located in another building inside the park. Food will be provided. Volunteers are responsable for the travel cost. Language: The camp language will be English, and having a minimum of Italian would really be an asset as not all the members of the center can speak well English. Qualifications: The important is to have good relationship capacities and to like animals. No special experience or competences are required as volunteers must just be like they are. Location: The camp will take place at Grottaglie. Close to Italian Railway Station at Taranto and Bari airport. Notes: During must of camp, in the activities, the free time, during the evenings ect, the volunteers will always be together with the disabled people of the center. Participation fee: 100 euro.
