Dear friends of De-Tong Ling, Since the beginning of this year - TopicsExpress

Dear friends of De-Tong Ling, Since the beginning of this year we have watched the work in progress of Nepalese master sculptor Sonam Tsering as he created the three metre high Guru Padmasambhava statue in the small pond adjacent to the Enlightenment Stupa. In June he completed the statue and painted it in vibrant colours, in time for the rains to re-fill the pond. It stands in wrathful pose, a wondrous holy object deterring negativity and spreading blessings of compassion and wisdom. Sonam Tsering has created several statues at Gyaltrul Rinpoches retreat centre in Oregon USA and is highly regarded around the world. When Sonam’s teacher Gyaltrul Rinpoche saw photographs of the completed statue, his response was “Wow! Kangaroo Island is becoming holy land! So beautiful!” An afternoon tea was held at Will Abram’s home to farewell and thank Sonam for his wonderful work and to present him with offerings in appreciation from all at De-Tong Ling. Sonam said that everything went well with the creation of the statue and that there were no obstacles. We were certainly blessed to have an artist of such high expertise come to the centre, which must have seemed almost the end of the world to him, and for him often to work in solitude and under difficult weather conditions, over three months. And of course the statue could not have been possible without the generosity of the very kind sponsors, to whom we give many thanks. Attached are some photographs of the statue, so you may see for yourself the wonderful result. Kind regards, Becky Geisler Secretary of De-Tong Ling Retreat Centre Kangaroo Island
