Dear friends, today I took voluntary retirement from the Government Service. With this a journey of 27 years of career in the Government came to an end. It was really a tough decision but I am happy that I got an opportunity to handle big and sensitive cases during my service. I gained experience in the field of international taxation and did LL.M. from Vienna University. I delivered courses for Tanzania Revenue Authority. As OSD to Minister of Corporate Affairs, I was involved in drafting of Companies Bill, Competition Amendment Bill and handling of big fraud cases. Finally, the 5 years tenure of Joint Secretary (Tax Policy and Legislation) was the most adorable period of the service. I had the privilege and honour to brief prime-ministers, interact with finance ministers, discuss various issues with Secretaries under the guidance and supervision of Chairpersons and Members. Various new initiatives taken through budgetary process gave professional satisfaction. It was a matter of great pride when Prime Minister nominated me as the member of an Expert Committee on certain tax issues like GAAR etc. No other service can provide so much. The life is only one and I have always wanted to do something different. Now, I got an opportunity to work on certain projects in private sector. The task is challenging but not impossible. Thus, I would begin my next inning soon. Dear friends, many thanks for your kind support for all these years and would continue to seek your guidance and support in future. Regards, Sunil Gupta
