Dear friends, work is now apace on our next short-film project - Mailay (Riff-Raff). Maillay is being shot in black & white, in 4:3 aspect, and is longer and more ambitious in its production, than the two previous Cinema Pure shorts that we screened earlier this year (both are posted on this page). We are excited that UNS MUFTI is the cinematographer on the project. Uns is best known cinematically for “Exit Frame” – a short he wrote, directed and shot in the Philippines – which was critically acclaimed and selected for screening at the Cannes Film Festivals Short Film Corner for 2009. With Uns will be YASIR KHAN on first camera – a role that Yasir also performed on Cinema Pure’s last film, “Ko”. Earlier this year, Yasir was Assistant Camera on the high profile spy feature, “021”. The new project is being written and directed by AHMED ARIF and will adhere to Cinema Pure rules - i.e., only prosumer (less expensive) equipment allowed, no background music unless played live in the shot, no constructed sets, and the narrative occurs in the present or is period-neutral. Please see the “Detailed Description” link in the “About” section of this page for more on the motivation behind Cinema Pure…
