Dear internet dumbasses and casual basketball fans. Allow me to do a public service and help you understand the Miami Heats strategy during the free agency season: The Big 3, along with Haslem, will opt out of their current contracts and free up 60 million for Pat Riley to use. Riley will use all that 60 million to lure ANY free agent. Meaning signing Carmelo to max and the likes of Ariza, Gortat, and even offer restricted free agents in Greg Monroe and Chandler Parsons contracts their teams wont be willing to match. Once Riley is done getting what he wants (use all that 60 million or whatever) then this thing called Larry Bird rights* comes into play, which will allow the Big 3 to re-sign with the heat without taking pay cuts. *Larry Bird rights - allows teams to resign free agents who spent 3+ years with the team without any salary cap penalties or luxury tax. Simple explanation - big 3 can/will opt out of their current contracts and let Riley use up the whole 60 million to retool then sign the big 3 towards the last day of free agency using bird rights without taking pay-cuts and without having to pay a luxury tax either.
