Dear linda, Yesterday I was shouted at by a group of MPs. Id - TopicsExpress

Dear linda, Yesterday I was shouted at by a group of MPs. Id been asked to explain to the Business Select Committee why 38 Degrees members are so worried about TTIP. But once I got there, they didn’t seem to want to hear why we’re against further privatisation of our NHS. Or why we want to stop American corporations having the power to sue our government in secret courts. Instead they attacked 38 Degrees members for wanting to have a say. They kept arguing that 38 Degrees members didn’t know enough to have valid opinions about the deal. And when I said we don’t trust politicians to deal with something as important as this behind closed doors, the chairman told me to shut up! BBC radio put together a short report about what happened. It’s just three minutes long, and well worth a listen: https://secure.38degrees.org.uk/ttip-committee After you’ve listened, I’d like to ask you to consider making a regular donation to 38 Degrees. That’s because I think the attitude of these MPs proves that stopping TTIP is going to be a long hard slog – and that we need to throw everything we can at it. This year we’ve pulled TTIP out of the shadows and forced politicians to talk about it. Judging by yesterday it’s clearly shaken them up. But if we’re going to win, then next year we’ll need to make the campaign three times as big. More regular donations to 38 Degrees would mean we can: design and print more leaflets, posters and pamphlets for 38 Degrees members to hand out in their area hire an extra staff member in the 38 Degrees office to track the shady developments in Brussels, and make sure 38 Degrees members aren’t left in the dark provide extra support and funds to 38 Degrees members campaigning against TTIP, including helping organise meetings with MPs and Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) produce hard-hitting powerful films to spell out the threat of TTIP Could you chip in a few pounds a month to make all that possible? https://secure.38degrees.org.uk/ttip-committee I felt pretty dispirited after the meeting. I wish Id been able to do more to speak up for 38 Degrees members. And I felt depressed that MPs are so keen on TTIP and hostile to the views of 38 Degrees members who’ve spent months campaigning up and down the country. But having had more time to think about it, I think that yesterday was proof that our campaigning is working. This campaign is not going to be an easy one to win, and its going to take a while. But our message is starting to get through - we need to keep going. Please have a listen, and if you agree with me please consider setting up a direct debit: https://secure.38degrees.org.uk/ttip-committee Thank you, David
