Patient Assessment: Begin with proper assessment to determine the WHYs of your symptoms. Through thorough intake and physical assessment, which includes history taking, intent listening, and using appropriate assessment tools we determine which underlying factors are contributing to your discomfort. It is equally imperative that both the practitioner and the yourself as a patient understands the WHYs of your symptoms. And, while all symptoms have a WHY, we are also aware that palliative treatments play a role in healthcare as well. For example, Advil may be required to calm the symptoms of your headache, while Acupuncture and Massage address the underlying causes. This is the principle of using a combination of palliative medicine (i.e. Advil) and restorative medicine (i.e. Acupuncture and massage) in your healthcare plan. 2. Patient Education: Once the WHYs are understood, we will discuss with you the options for HOWs. As your practitioners we will draw from our knowledge of various therapies and discuss with you different avenues of treatment while outlining the expectations, risks and benefits of each HOW. You drive your health ship - our goal is that you as a patient are provided with simple and concise explanations so that together we can make decisions for your treatment plan. 3. Patient Responsibility: The patient must agree to take an active role in their health plan. We believe that both members of the practitioner-patient relationship play active roles in healing.
