Dear person who I shall not name and shame (unless you want me to of course) thank you for sending me the news article regarding the neglected ferrets biting the neglected babys face off huffingtonpost/2015/01/23/ferrets-attack-baby-philadelphia_n_6536180.html My ferrets have never bitten Leia. They and her have both been taught respect, boundaries and to not bite each other. The ferrets are always supervised when not staying in their secure cage, not a flimsy puppy play pen. Please read the news article correctly and note that : 5 children under 5yrs old were removed as were the other multiple animals. The parents were already under investigating regarding their parenting skills. There was no human food besides peanut butter, cranberries and juice for 7 people! The father was asleep upstairs, the mother in the bathroom whilst for an undisclosed time the baby was left in her car seat. The small home was reported to be in a state of squalor including mites and fleas. Both parents were known to have mental difficulties. One article reported two ferrets were at the babies face when she came down yet all 3 were euthanised? There is always 3 sides to a story their side, our side (speculation) and the truth. Sadly ferrets do not have a social conscience and would be unaware of wrong doing. They also imprint on food they eat so a biscuit fed ferret will take a LOT of time and convincing that meat, never mind a live screaming, kicking baby is food. I am not saying they didnt do it, Im also not saying MY ferrets would NEVER do it but I have a firm grip of reality and know to train my pets and my child the correct ways to behave around each other. I also know the correct way to house and care for my ferrets who never have empty bellies! I know you were concerned and thank you but there is a bigger picture that needs to be seen. The headline should be Parents neglect children and pets THEN report the facts that the ferrets are accused of eating the babies face.
