Death and suffering are a big part of hunting - THE MAIN PART - TopicsExpress

Death and suffering are a big part of hunting - THE MAIN PART IMHO. Death is what hunting is all about. Having said that - I am not an anti-hunter. Neither do I condone it. I simply choose not to hunt. Is there a place for the hunting culture in the scheme of things? I dont know - I am not wise enough to provide an answer. I was a hunter! I came from a family to whom hunting was a ritual of manhood. I have walked in the hunters moccasins for half a generation; hence, I know the direction of the hunter. I have tracked down a creature that only wanted life and peaceful coexistence. Relentlessly, I pursued this creature, killed, skinned and consumed it. I know what Buck Fever is - the bloodlust of the kill!!! A well place shot of a 30-06 rifle; a sound like no other. There is nothing like the crack of a 30-06 rifle on an early morning coming down. It sounds like -- DEATH! I know the JOY of seeing one of natures gentle creatures attempting to flee, stiff legged, nostrils flared in surprise, a snort then a collapse - limply - into a thicket, bawling like a human baby. Finally, a rattle like sigh of expiration. I know death! The coppery scent of spilling blood. The pleading eyes that disappear into nothingness. Death be not proud! Oh! Dear God - I hear that sound; I see those sights in the dark of night. My dreams haunt me. I have marked the place in my mind: This be the verse you grave for me - Here he lies where he longd to be; Home is the sailor, home from the sea, And the hunter home from the hill. REQUIEM by: Robert Louis Stevenson. Ahhh! Yes; what have I become? I -- who mourn the passing of a spider.
