Debbie Sturgell, Keith Trogdon, Jim Blue, John Kraft and I met at - TopicsExpress

Debbie Sturgell, Keith Trogdon, Jim Blue, John Kraft and I met at 1:00 this afternoon at Crestwood to talk about the superintendents salary. The information that I have received from Loraine and Debbie has been consistent, including the information that I, unfortunately, made Debbie go over again today. I appreciate her patience and time. I also thought it was most helpful that 3 board members showed up to attend. One had to excuse himself and wait outside due to the Open Meetings Act, but I appreciated them taking time out of their day to be there and show concern. Paul Porter, was the other board member that sat in his pickup while we met. I want the information about the school district to come from the school board in however manner they wish to present it. In the mean time, anyone can talk with Debbie and learn the amount of the superintendents salary. It most definitely IS NOT $180,000 or $185,000 like I have heard told in the community. If I had anything to do with putting those numbers out there I was wrong and I apologize. The rumor about the superintendent getting a raise while the teachers didnt isnt exactly true. All those planning on retiring received 6%. This is a complicated issue, and people should talk to their board members or school administrators if they have questions. I dont think its unreasonable to ask about how salaries were affected this past year. Im learning about the cooperative school and how it works. There are 3 boards. The 2 districts appear to be working toward things being done consistently in both districts. One area that caused confusion for me was the administrative contracts. Im sharing this because I can speculate that it may have caused some of the confusion in the community. I am aware that there are contracts being used in both school systems that have the same format, but are interpreted differently by the people in the 2 different districts signing the contracts. For example, if a board member was used to understanding the language one way was to read another boards contract, and not know that the PENSION language was interpreted differently in the other district, it could be confusing if the information was disseminated in the community. I can see how people would feel they are being mislead. Whether this happened or not I dont know. Its possible that it did. Read one way another 9.4% would be added to the salary. Read the other way it is merely .58%. School business is complicated. To serve on a school board is a challenge. Board members may act and think differently, but they all want whats best for kids or they wouldnt be on the board. Everyone wants whats best for their communities. God please look down on us favorably and help our community leaders serve to the best of their ability.
