Dear TNACC Members, Our two day call blitz to Rep. Kane and Rep. White was very successful. Rep. Kanes office reports they received over 600 calls on Tuesday. They were confused as to why we were targeting Rep. Kane. I tried to explain that he was not being targeted. That EVERY legislator will get calls and emails. It was our hope that Rep. Kane would talk to the leadership of the House Education Committee (he is a member of that committee) and encourage them to schedule the bill. We need to pump up the effort. The schedule comes out on Thursday. For those that were told by Rep. Whites office that Rick Womick pushed the bill to the final calendar and that only Rick Womick can schedule the bill you were not being told the truth. TRUTH: M. White/H. Brooks schedule HB2332 for Feb. 25 (Rep. Womick did not request that date) Rep. Womick asked Rep. White for a 1 week extension to March 4 and it was granted. Then Rep. M. White/Rep. H. Brooks decided to place the bill on the final calendar. If our bill is not heard soon there is no chance for it to move through the channels to get a vote on the floor of the full House. If the session ends before the bill is voted on by the full House and goes to Summer Study this is a polite way of saying our bill is DOA. So listen closely to the promises they make. Allowing the bill to be heard (as they are now promising) does not mean the bill will ever get to the House for a vote. Sending the bill to Summer Study means the bill is dead. 3. WEDNESDAY ONLY - Email the House Education Sub-Committee Let them know we want Common Core repealed. Keep email short and polite. If there is something specific you do not like about Common Core feel free to communicate that in your email. When you call you might want to ask if the Representative is in support of Common Core or against Common Core. If you get any responses let me know.
