The beheading videos are the Lusitania, the Tonkin Gulf, the sinking of the Maine, the provocation for war, or whatever its called. Yet, almost no one has seen, or can see, the videos. The Ministry of Truth keeps them from us for our own good. So it is our internalized image of fear(?), not the external spectacle, which takes primacy in mediating (political) reality. 2. The fog which envelops the Enemys name. It is referred to as ISIS, IS, ISIL. In the last couple days there has been a push to not acknowledge the name they use, but to come up with some other name. Odd enough. Even odder: this is the first time I can remember that the name used for a group like this has been the English name. Usually, like in every other case I can think of, we use some kind of transliteration of the Arabic name: Al Queda, Al Nusra, Hamas, Hezbollah, etc., not the English translation. Except the Men in Black. Clearly the propagandists wanted to create confusion and ambiguity over the name. Theyve succeeded admirably. Spot on. Id call it the Fog of Fear.
