Debra Ann Brown Dunlap Woods, LHS Class of 68, passed away on January 4th, 2015. Cause of death is undetermined at the time of this writing awaiting Coroner results. A memorial service was conducted for family and friends at the River of Praise Church in Tomball, Texas. Born November 24th, 1950 in Norman, Oklahoma to her parents, Dexter Brown Sr. and Nancy Johns Brown. Baptized on April 13, 1955 at 1st Methodist Church in Great Bend, Kansas. Following the family move to Midland, Texas Debbie was active during her high school years at Lee. She was a member of the 100 Club supporting the Youth Center, the Pan American Student Forum in 67 and a member of the Rebelettes in 1968. Following high school graduation in 1968, Debbie garnered a scholarship to attend Art & Design School in New York; however, being a West Texas Girl, Debbie chose to attend Texas Tech University in Lubbock. She married her high school sweetheart Douglas Lee Dunlap (also LHS 68) in the First Methodist Church of Midland, Dr. Timothy Gutherie officiating. Debbie and Douglas had two children, Douglas Lee Dunlap, Jr. and Denise René Dunlap. The new family moved to Dallas, Texas, where Debbie taught Sunday school for a number of years and worked in floral and interior design. Debra remarried in 1979 to Ted Woods of Houston, Texas and had two more children, Cary Dean and Rusty Alan Woods. After several years raising her young children, Debra enrolled in Nursing School in 1985. She completed her studies in 1988 graduating 2nd in her class as Salutatorian in a class of over 100 students. She subsequently worked in the medical field as a nurse in the Houston Medical Center for many hospitals and Doctors offices during a career of twenty years. Debra was personally requested to work assisting Dr. Red Duke with his practice at Hermann Hospital in Houston, which she did for several years. Debbie was a kind and gentle person who loved her family dearly. Debra also loved caring for others which she personified in her professional career. She had a deep passion for music, art and performance. She was a lover of nature and all things outdoors. At a future date, following her wishes, her ashes will be spread among the mountains of Colorado that she so loved.
