Dec 16th 2014 marks probably the deadliest day in the history of any nation in the world. This is the day when an organized attempt to avenge one sect of a nation (the army) left more than 120 future holders dead and hundreds more traumatized, so devastated that you and I and those who did not witness this incident might not even imagine. They say children are the future of any nation. Today the nation weeps at the loss of these precious gems that went to school to study and to be someone someday. They did not kill just these children, they killed more than 120 families, they killed more than 120 parents and they killed the hopes of millions associated with these children. As I scroll down my facebook newsfeed, I see hundreds of posts condemning this barbaric act, people everywhere turning their profile pictures black, this hashtag #peshawarattack all over the newsfeed and words of condemnation coming in from all over the world. Eyes all over the country, in fact all over the world are filled with tears. I, on the other hand, could not shed a single tear. This might come off as me being hard hearted, but let me tell you why I couldn’t cry. Even though there’s no way I can relate to the children who lost their lives, neither can I feel the mental state the survivors are in, or relate to the accounts of the eyewitnesses, my soul is numb. Yes, I am paralyzed inside and although I am short of tears, my hands shiver as I write this. I refuse to call those terrorists human beings. I refuse to call them humans, let alone being called Muslims and the protectors of the religion as they like to be called. I can’t fathom how someone could actually kill someone as innocent as a child, it’s beyond barbaric. It turns out they could. They didn’t just kill one child, they colored those floors with blood. They set a living human being (the administrative assistant) on fire in front of those children to instill fear in their small minds. The hashtag that is recorded as a world trend right now is another fad that will be a sad history soon; it’s just a matter of time. The grief of these families, however, is eternal. For someone, the child who got killed might have been the only name bearer to the family. With that child the family came to end. For million others, sending their kids to school every morning will now be a nightmare. In a nation who was given their first revelation “to read”, mothers will be scared to pass on this message to their children. It’s time we wake up as a nation. It’s time we respond strongly to the greatest blow the entire humanity could ever receive. People demand public execution of the detainees involved in terrorist activities. In my opinion, what this country needs right now is cleansing. It needs to be washed off of people who are a threat to the well-being of this land. Don’t mistake me for demanding another massacre. Massacre is done when you kill people. These creatures are anything but humans. They are soulless bodies programmed to kill, to take lives of the innocent in the name of Islam. They are not and should not be mistaken as Muslims, or as members of any other religion for that matter. I, on the behalf of the entire country, apologize to the families of the martyrs, we failed to protect them. Those little angels robbed of their right to live, will surely be awarded the highest rank in paradise. Our hearts weep and bleed with you and this grief is not just yours, it’s the entire nation’s grief. It’s an irreplaceable loss that these murderers will have to be accountable for. To the people, I say, don’t let this day just be another incident. Don’t let the memories of those who were martyred be forgotten. Don’t let this be another statistic. Let the entire world know we are not dead, that we would not let our children’s sacrifice be wasted. Stand together in your demand for justice.
