December 10, 2014 TO: The Honorable Chris Collins, 27th Congressional District RE: via email Renew CHIP funding My understanding a vital investment in childrens health could be on the chopping block if Congress fails to act fast. Right now, millions of children get their health care through the Childrens Health Insurance Program (CHIP), but if Congress fails to act soon, federal CHIP funding will end. “CHIP” is a state-federal partnership; state budget officials must make decisions about the future of their states CHIP coverage well in advance of the federal deadline. For nearly two decades, CHIP has been an essential source of coverage for families, ensuring access to health care for children in working families whose parents earn too much to qualify for Medicaid but too little to purchase private health insurance. The program has played a critical role in reducing the number of uninsured children by more than 50 percent while improving health outcomes and access to care for children and pregnant women across the nation. I urge action and renew CHIP funding this year! Thank you for your consideration of my remarks and favor a reply.
