December 2014 Luncheon - China’s Current Challenges, Reform and Implications for U.S. Business Friday December 5, 2014 from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM Hans Garden 3020 78th Ave SE Mercer Island, WA 98040 Friday, December 5, 2014 Yi Ping(Y.P.) Chan 陈宇平 Principal of Chanden Inc. Topic: Chinas Current Challenges, Reform and Implications for U.S. Business In early October, 2014, the IMF declared that China had become the worlds largest economy on Purchase Power Parity basis. Thirty years of reform has produced an economic miracle unparalleled in human history. However, China is at a cross roads and facing a lot of challenges in the areas of corruption, pollution, food safety, investment driven economy, high real estate prices, aging population, wider gaps between the rich and poor and slower economic growth to absorb the new work force. On the other hand, with US$4 trillion of foreign exchange reserves, over 150 billionaires and about 3 million millionaire households, China Inc. and its wealthy citizens are aggressively looking to expand beyond national borders via organic expansion or strategic acquisition as well as personal investment in real estate and other key assets. What is the Chinese government doing to resolve these inter-related but tough issues? What does Chinas re-emergence on to world stage mean for people and business in USA, the sole global superpower now? More importantly, how do people in USA needed to be positioned to benefit from the billions of investment, 300,000 students and millions of tourists as well as many wealthy immigrants seeking safe heaven and a better quality of life for themselves in USA?
