December 28, 2014 Pastors weekly devotion ~ Please read and feel free to comment or ask a question, and our Pastor will respond accordingly: “Stir Up the Gifts” “Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you…” 2 Timothy 1:6 As we get ready to move into a new year it is time that we learn to do well with what we get from God. That’s right – it’s time to stir up your gift! Do you remember the time when you first came to the Lord? You were hungry for Him and for His presence. In those days you devoured scripture; you were present for biblical teaching, you were involved in your local church and assisted in ministry by serving in the church. But then something happened. What happened to you and the gift God gave you? Why aren’t you attending church regularly like the way you should? “Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them…” Romans 12:6. God gave us gifts so that we might use them in the Church. But how exactly can we stir up the gift of God? To stir up your gift, you must first go to God’s Word and understand the importance of building up your faith--it is a gift from God (Ephesians 2:8). Also, to stir up your gift is to immerse yourself in the Word. By doing this our minds are renewed and we become sensitive to the thoughts, plans, and direction of God. When our hearts and minds are full of God’s Word, the Holy Spirit can bring that Word back to our remembrance and equip us to share a word in season that may liberate, heal, or bring peace. So we must always be ready. In order to be ready we must make prayer a daily habit, in the same way we make reading and studying His Word a habit. Therefore we can pray in faith, believing that He hears and will answer us. Finally, to stir up the gifts, you must use them. We must be bold and get out of the boat! It takes faith to step out and utilize your gift. As you believe and step out, God will meet you and help you. The more you use your gift, the more confident you will become in God’s provision and support. We must be bold in the spirit to go forward. It’s time to step out and stir up the gifts!
