December 3, 2014 – 4th Day of Advent Genesis 6:11-22, “Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight, and the earth was filled with violence. And God saw that the earth was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted its ways upon the earth. And God said to Noah, “I have determined to make an end of all flesh, for the earth is filled with violence because of them; now I am going to destroy them along with the earth. Make yourself an ark of cypress wood; make rooms in the ark, and cover it inside and out with pitch. This is how you are to make it: the length of the ark three hundred cubits, its width fifty cubits, and its height thirty cubits. Make a roof for the ark, and finish it to a cubit above; and put the door of the ark in its side; make it with lower, second, and third decks. For my part, I am going to bring a flood of waters on the earth, to destroy from under heaven all flesh in which is the breath of life; everything that is on the earth shall die. But I will establish my covenant with you; and you shall come into the ark, you, your sons, your wife, and your sons’ wives with you. And of every living thing, of all flesh, you shall bring two of every kind into the ark, to keep them alive with you; they shall be male and female. Of the birds according to their kinds, and of the animals according to their kinds, of every creeping thing of the ground according to its kind, two of every kind shall come in to you, to keep them alive. Also take with you every kind of food that is eaten, and store it up; and it shall serve as food for you and for them.” Noah did this; he did all that God commanded him.” God of all Creation we praise you for all that you have granted us in your mercy and through your grace. Thank you for loving us so very much that you sent your only Son, Jesus to redeem us. In this season of Advent Father we focus most of our attention and efforts upon all the preparations of Christmas with decorations, gifts and food. Help us now Father to focus not on the material rather upon that which Jesus came to do, to remake the world in your Image alone—for Jesus is the New Adam. When you made a covenant with Noah your heart was broken at the utter disgrace of the world and everything in it. You left you bow in the sky as a reminder that you’d never again destroy the world by flood. Help us this day Father take upon ourselves your Image, that of the New Adam, Jesus that others may turn from their human and broken ways turning to holiness, righteousness and Godliness to serve you alone and not mammon. Father please turn the hearts of our leaders to you. Let our leaders follow your desire and not the desires of political chicanery for personal power and gain. Please bless and keep strong the men and women who serve our nation in the military, police, fire, protective, emergency and medical services throughout our land and the world; be with their loved ones as they serve. We ask you to aid the release of Pastor Said Abedini, the school girls of Nigeria, Asia Bibi in Pakistan as well as those whom you know that may be unknown to us. Father there are many this morning who are ill and ailing and we ask for your healing mercy for each of those who ail and struggle. Please relieve the suffering of the chronically ill. Gently call the dying to your loving arms. Comfort and assure those who grieve and mourn. Uplift the broken, downtrodden, dispirited, wayward and apostate that each will return to you. Father keep steady and diligent the student and educator. Return safely the traveler. Give strength and hope to your Holy Church that we will be the Body of Christ that we will go and make disciples of the world. Strengthen our faith and our beings for the work at hand. Father we pray all of our prayers in the Redeeming Name of Jesus. Amen. READ GENESIS 8:6-12.
