Decided to try my hand at (synthetic) dread-making and turns out I am a natural! Always wanted to dive into this well-respected craft back when it gained a huge surge of popularity and developed a significant online presence a few years back. Made curly ones, spiral ones and plan to make some with blended effects and braids when I get more colors. All of it! Its great fun. I broke down because I wanted to add my own special touch to a set I am making for my wedding day. It was going to mean a lot to me. The pictures below outline my set up, and a freshly dipped dread, and one that was in the middle of drying (so they are a bit frizzy still.) Sealing the dreads is a very important part - as Ive learned today. So speaking of sealing, I am thinking about getting a steamer - but not sure how long-term this making will be. - anyone have an extra steamer lying around they dont need? I dont mind using the boiling water, especially for curly locks - but I can see how irritating the singeing can be. And wearing gloves makes the craft clumsy. I can make you some custom hair or offer steampunk/animal bone jewelry in exchange. Message me if interested!
