Defensor launches various projects in Ajuy Panay News, November 21, 2014 ILOILO – Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr. spent a whole day in Ajuy town on Nov. 19 to witness the launching and turnover of several community-driven development projects. The activity started with the turnover of houses to 10 households in Barangay Pantalan Navarro whose houses were totally destroyed by super typhoon “Yolanda” last year. The houses, costing P120,000 each, were built under of the Core Shelter Project of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). Ajuy’s Mayor Juancho Alvarez said there is also an ongoing construction of 10 units each in Barangay Progreso and Barangay Punta Buri while another 40 units will be built next year. Alvarez said the National Housing Authority (NHA) has also identified five sites in Ajuy where they will build around 5,000 houses with a total budget of P85 million. The NHA sites are barangays San Antonio, Agcadarao, Tipakla, Pili and Barrido. Then, Defensor turned over the bakery equipment donated by the Italian government to the Gawad Kalinga Village in Brgy. San Antonio. The bakery has become operational after Defensor allotted P400,000 for the construction of the bakery building. Defensor urged the GK Village association to form a cooperative to make the operation of the bakery successful. Defensor then proceeded to Sitio Navalas, Brgy. Culasi to grace the inauguration of the Day Care Center donated by Mr. Kanemori Murakami and family of Japan. The donation was facilitated by former Board Member Jet Rojas the vice president of Organization for Industrial, Spiritual and Cultural Advacement, International (OISCA) Japan here in the Philippines. Defensor cited his administration’s full support to the day care program which, he said, is a big help to the education of children. He also recognized the generosity of Manuel Dulos who donated the lot where the Day Care Center was constructed. Before going back to Iloilo City late in the afternoon, Defensor passed by Barangay Luca to witness the distribution of rice to the residents. Mayor Alvarez said the town of Ajuy got 5,000 sacks of rice from DSWD which they distribute to all of the town’s barangays. (ECGarcia, Capitol News/PN)
