Define purpose and priorities for your wedding The journey to having an engagement is usually accompanied by emotions and anxiety for a bride waiting to make that lifelong commitment to her spouse. Likewise, the wedding ceremony has different meanings to every bride and the importance of the occasion in itself has become underrated in recent times. It has become a distinctive fruition of fairytales for the realistic bride planning a blissful budget affair and the idealistic bride trying to keep up with the joneses. What a bride wants It is safe to say that every bride desires to find true love and live happily ever after; it is also fair to say that marriage also provides a great escape for women desperately seeking freedom and independence from their parents. But there are some other women who are just looking for a comfortable nest to lay their heads in exchange for tender love and care. True purpose As a bride-to-be, identify your purpose and have priorities before making that important decision so as not to undermine your plans and that of your spouse. Every bride desires a dream wedding but a dream wedding can be misinterpreted if your goals are unrealistic. If your spouse desires a low-key wedding probably because he believes in saving for the future, you must also be willing to compromise as the more you can both bring on the table, the better for your marriage in the long run. Define yourself Engage yourself during the waiting period; identify who you are, set your goals and aspirations and set out plans to achieving them. Have pleasurable moments with the people that you care about and those who care about you. Life can take you in many directions, but always remember to take the memories along with you and do not allow your newly acquired status to change your values. Do not overwhelm yourself with the anxiety of your forthcoming wedding, but learn to stay calm and take good care of yourself. Remember that you once had a life before your wedding and your spouse’s responsibility is to spice up your life and make it more meaningful too. Get counsel It is not unusual for brides to face challenges during the planning period. It is therefore wise to seek counsel from women who are enjoying blissful marriages; they will have a lot of stories to share with you. It is also important to have a mentor – a man or woman – who you can share your feelings with, especially someone who has the knowledge, experience and maturity to lift you up when the chips are down in your marriage.
