Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) president Shri Jai Prakash Agarwal, MP exhorted the district and block Congress committee presidents, MLAs and the Municipal Councillors to get themselves fully involved to ensure the success of the NSUI candidates in the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections. He asked them to go around and work to introduce the NSUI candidates among the student community in the DUSU elections on September 13.Shri Agarwal said this while addressing a large meeting organized at the DPCC office, Rajiv Bhawan, regarding the DUSU elections. Those present were district and block presidents, MLAs, Municipal Councillors, DPCC office-bearers, those who contested the elections and a large number of Congress workers. He said though the names of the candidates have not yet been announced, whoever would be chosen would be acceptable and popular candidates. But he said everyone should get associated with the DUSU elections right away so as to ensure the victory of the party candidates. At the start of the meeting, Shri Agarwal presented two resolutions. The first resolution thanked Congress president Smt. Sonia Gandhi for the passage of the Food Security Bill in Parliament. The resolution said that around 68 per cent population in the country would benefit from the Food Security Bill through a Government law, which will guarantee the poor and the distressed food, as they would be able to buy food grains at subsidized rates, and thanked Smt. Sonia Gandhi, and for her great empathy for the poor. The second resolution wished speedy recovery of Smt. Sonia Gandhi and good health and long life to the Congress president, so that she could continue to lead the country for very long.Besides DPCC president Shri Jai Prakash Agarwal, prominent others who addressed the meeting were AICC general-secretry and in-charge of Delhi Dr Shakeel Ahmed, secretary Kuljit Singh Nagra, AICC general secretary Mukul Wasnik, Union Minister Oscar Fernandes, NSUI national Secretary Girish, and election covensdor Vishwajit. Other prominent leaders present were Delhi NSUI president Ankit Deda, DUSU former president Amrita Dhawan, C.P.Mittal, Oppostion leaders in the MCD Mukesh Goel and Waryam Kaur, DPCC office-bearers Ashok Kumar Jain, Suresh Malik,Anurudh Lal ,Jitender Kumar Kochar, Bhisham Sharma, Rajinder Malik, Savitri Tomar, Pradeep Sharma, Hari Kishan Jindal, S.K.Puri, Sukhbir Sharma, Chattar Singh, Dhirender Tyagi, Tilothama Chaudhary, district presidents P.S.Bawa, Jai Kishan Sharma, Inderjeet, Ajit Singh, Javed Mirza and Javed Mirza, Alok Sharma, P.K.Mishra, a larger number of district and block presidents.. Shri Agarwal, addressing the gathering, said the NSUI has always fought for the welfare of the student community, and held many rallies to secure the democratic rights of the students. Shri Agarwal assured that the way the NSUI conducted the Delhi University election works in a peaceful and understanding manner was very motivating and rewarding. He said the students who enroll at various colleges of Delhi University on merit from all over the country expect an egalitarian atmosphere, with every student getting equal treatment. Shakeel Ahmed said like the manner in which the youth and student community are the backbone of the country, the NSUI, through its commendable works, has emerged as a popular students’ union. Shri Agarwal appealed to all the Congress leaders and workers to work among the student community in their areas, and request them to vote for the NSUI candidates in the DUSU elections. He said the NSUI would once again enter the Delhi University Students’ Union election fray to forcefully to counter those forces who are senseless, communal and divisive, and would emerge successful. He said our efforts would be to secure better facilities for the students, and they should emerge from the Delhi University as learned and experienced individuals who leave their impression on students of other parts of the country. Mukul Wasnik said it was a special responsibility on the part of the Congress workers of Delhi that they get actively associated with the DUSU elections by helping the NSUI candidates by enrolling new students to their fold. He said the Delhi Government had also done commendable work for the welfare of students, and if a worker managed to get the votes of at least two students, still our candidates could win with an impressive margin. He said the NSUI candidates have been winning the DUSU elections with their own efforts and strength, and has a set a record in winning all the four posts. He appealed to all the MLAs, Municipal Councillors and Congress leaders to work in their areas for the success of the NSUI candidates by making them familiar among the student community in their areas, and also make door-to-door visits to distribute the NSUI pamphlets. Oscar Fernandes said the NSUI was the biggest students’ organization in the country, and in Delhi too, because of their commendable works, the NSUI was ahead of all other student bodies. He said it was essential to make the achievements of the Congress through people contacts and make aware among the student community such achievements, so that the other student bodies create the right impression. He said the NSUI candidates would win with record margins in the September 13 DUSU elections and would set a record. —
