Democratic Socialists of America’s founding chair Michael - TopicsExpress

Democratic Socialists of America’s founding chair Michael Harrington once wrote that “socialism best informs our politics.” He referred to the way in which our moral outrage at injustice, an outrage shared by many good people including liberals and progressives, combined with a socialist analysis of its root causes. For example, many people agree that cutting food stamp benefits to our most vulnerable – children, the elderly, and the disabled – is a disgrace. But only socialists understand that private food banks can never replace democratic, public programs to promote a full-employment economy, because charity can never fully alleviate the misery caused by an undemocratic economic system that allows employers to exploit workers and drive down wages. dsausa.org/?utm_campaign=2013yearend1&utm_medium=email&utm_source=dsausa
