Demolish and rebuild or rearrange the walls? Sometimes making a - TopicsExpress

Demolish and rebuild or rearrange the walls? Sometimes making a new structure takes less effort than revamping an existing and complex edifice when the plans have been only in mind. I am talking about programming. There is a thing known as reverse engineering... where on fixes or adds new procedure/s and recompile it. Now it has to go through some rigorous testing to check whether it is compatible with the other modules developed separately... A bit of a pain in the arse as I think. Why not start from scratch and write a new module, connect, test and then trash the old module for good? The story starts from 2 parties I managed to get appointments with a very educated (young) senior astrologer who I really admire. 2 of the 3 Horoscopes I had made had a marriage defect known as Bhauma Dosha - and it highlights in light red. In fact only one of them really had! I was not wrong in programming... When Mars is on 1, 4, 7, 8, 12 Bhauma Dosha occurs... About an year back that was all what I knew; so I wrote logic for what I read in local books... In India I figured out that there are 7 exceptions to this... for my exams I wrote them 7; but never bothered to amend my own program for those exceptions! Very Lazy! This guy is really great... he saw the error... and without embarrassing me he pointed out that since Mars sits here, or aspected by Jupiter and etc. the Bhuma Dosha gets cancelled... That he told me was 4 of 7 conditions. The problem with learning astrology is that there are too many diverse doctrines. (For instance, the South Indian Astrologers consider 2 also as malefic in Bhauma Dosha (viz. 1,2,4,7,8,12) - I personally think that they are correct as the house 2 represents among others an addition to the family... But we are bound by certain accepted and adopted standards when writing a program. (acceptable to common people and an average astrologer). Having a look at Mars on 2 one should notice but better to keep for one;s self.... The best way to slash your way out of the jungle is to use sets - in Discreet Mathematics). Kulaka as we are taught in school and extract what are common to every set - then we name it as the intersecting set Chedana Kulakaya It is safer and more logical to apply those common rules and logic to a program than all 20+ opinions... of the 4/7 I was taught yesterday I found all four belong to the common sets of rule. I need to add 3 or 4 more to that to make the logic complete. We come to this question... Demolish and rebuild or rearrange the walls? For me to go back into tracing the where this Bhuma Dosh Triggers off is not going to be easy.... bloody waste of time! Write a new procedure from scratch. That will give and option to include an asterisk to the output indicating that we are taking the South Indian concept of the 2nd house as malefic too.. It also gives rise to some new concepts... like counting the position of Mars with respect to the native Moon, Venus, and Jupiter and sights... There is no harm in the old procedure being there... one just comments it out and the program execution will skip over the comment blocks... why not delete it... never... If my modification does not work.... I could always uncomment it and comment the new program block - the program will work as I designed it... Once it runs 20 - 30 times without a problem the you could delete the old procedure permanently... for what any way? If there is enough space let the old wife live in the next room... I always believe that when you build something new it has better technology, a better shape and is far more user-friendly and more structurally sound... that is if you build it as a module... that has PnP capability... This new module I create has to be independent and flexible to add or subtract doctrines that only one or more addition/s or deletion/s to a set will instantly reflect on the output with no extra effort. To conclude this, there is one major principle in life people forget. In Sri Lanka it is difficult to get an Yes or No answer to a straight question (Unless one is under cross examination) - That too as I see has gone to the dogs! [Now the witness is leading the Defense Counsel with stories! [Read Syams Murder Trial Report / DIG Vass Gunawardena] This if not an old tactic of the defense - he cannot remember and He is lying too will not work here... The once accused, given a conditional pardoning has freely stated that he had lied to the CID, he has partly lied to the CCD but he had to the truth to a Magistrate... that is one year back... The defense counsel/s have not read their briefs.. There is no point in flogging a dead horse... moreover, the man did not kill the victim... never saw it being done... He was just a middle-man who could have saved the victim in time... but hewas scared about his own life.... I would not have cross-examined anyway... the more I do the more culpability of the entire gang will become apparent; bloody foolish attorneys come out of our stupid Law Collage... only bloody good for the traffic courts!] If you are a a student, read below... if not, then dont bother reading from here below ... The Yes / No answer; 0 or 1. [Written here in pseudo code as an idea] 1. Check Mars on 1, 4, 7, 8, 12. If true Return 1. 2. Exceptions: Return 0 by default. (The idea is to get 1 somewhere) Seven subs / exemptions will return 0 by default or 1 if true. Now the logic makes sense: Lets put it this way for inconvenience:: 1. There is Bhuma Dosha on 1, 4, 7 , 8, & 12: we have 1 raised. 2. Exceptions: One raises a flag 1 1 & 1 cancels the Bhauma Dosha; 1 & 0 means there are no exceptions; therefore, 1 + 0 = 1 (in binary) ; in contrast 1+1 = 0 (in binary) Based on this 1 or 0 one could decide or display if or not this Bhouma Dosha exists or not. This is not about Astrology. It is a technique use by elimination. Have a base criterion established... and then set up the elimination criteria... very easy.... infarct what you are doing is applying a self made data filter...Can do with Access, any SQL engine, or even Excel. But we are on a different ball game here... simple mathematics... Inequalities & elimination... That is what Astrology is all about... The theme of this post was rebuilding... not revamping with new paint and old ideas.... Some great music comes to my mind...
