Denver Broncos 3rd Quarter Recap Week 10 @ Oakland Raiders W 41-17 Manning had 5 TDs, but the team struggled until a highlight reel catch and run by CJ Anderson just before halftime for a 51 yard TD. Denver never looked back and the game became too much for the young and over matched Raiders. Game Grade: B+ Week 11 @ Saint Louis Rams L 22-7 This was the game to forget this season. Denver got beat and beat bad in all facets of the game. The play call selection was huge with Denver throwing 54 plays versus 10 runs. One of those was a Manning kneel down before the half. Missed tackles on defense, interceptions by Manning, dropped passes by receivers and never running the ball made for a bad, bad game. Though, after this loss, Denver said they want to run the ball more. Game Grade: F Week 12 VS Miami Dolphins W 39-36 Denver defensively struggled with an improving Ryan Tannehill. They closed the Dolphins offense down late and secured the victory as the game was not as close as the score indicates. The play of CJ Anderson and the downhill rushing attack made life easier on Peyton Manning. Anderson carried for 167 yards with a 6.2 average. After being called out by former Bronco and ESPN analyst Marck Schlereth the O-Line responded with tenacity and physicality. Game Grade: B Week 13 @ Kansas City Chiefs W 29-16 The Chiefs biggest game of the year for playoff hopes and division title aspirations were as hard to grasp as CJ Anderson in this game. Denver again committed to the run and overwhelmed the KC defense with drive after drive behind the 6 O-lineman front and CJ Anderson’s physical running. 168 yards by Anderson nearly matched Manning 179 passing yards. Overshadowed in the game because of Anderson’s running was how great the defense was. Starting the game with 3 straight, 3 and Outs, it made for an early 17-0 score with all momentum behind Denver. KC did catch a break to get Manning to fumble at the Denver 23. But another defensive 3 and out led only to a FG. Newly acquired Connor Barth tied a franchise record with 5 FGs for Denver. This score could have been much, much higher had Manning completed more passes. But far and away, Denver’s best game in total team execution. Game Grade: A Quarterly Grade: B- Denver’s surprising lost to Saint Louis was disastrous. They made average players like Shaun Hill and Kenny Britt look like allstars. If Denver beats Saint Louis, they would have been one game ahead of New England right now. The Broncos discovering the downhill rushing game I’ve been begging for, and has turned in consecutive 160+ yard games for Anderson. Denver roughed up an underrated Miami defense and eliminated a top pass rush tandem in Hali and Houston in Kansas City. They are heading into the home stretch of the season and are playing some of their best football right now. 4th Quarter Preview to come soon. Go Orange and Blue!!
