Derek Jeter and Todd Frazier at the All-Star game. Five years - TopicsExpress

Derek Jeter and Todd Frazier at the All-Star game. Five years from now Jeter will be giving his speech at Cooperstown. Frazier is from New Jersey and grew up with Jeter as his idol. In 1998, as a 12 year old kid, Frazier met Jeter at a Yankees game. The Reds will play against Jeter this weekend in a three game interleague series at Yankee Stadium. What you didnt know-- Jeter was almost a Red. The Reds had the fifth pick of the 1992 baseball draft, and the Yankees were picking # 6. The Reds after going back and forth between Jeter and Chad Mottola, ended up picking Mottola. Mottola played in 35 games for the Reds, batting .215 with 3 HR. Over the next decade he bounced around between the minors and utility status in the majors, seeing limited major league action with Florida, Baltimore and Toronto, and finishing with a .200 career batting average. I know, I know. This ranks right up there with the Frank Robinson and Tony Perez trades as the worst decisions the Reds ever made in the front office.
