Derek Prince Quote from the book, "Protection from Deception." In 1 John 1:9, we read, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” God does not want to hold your sins against you, which is why He provided a way for you to receive complete cleansing andforgiveness. There is one condition, however: we must confess our sins. If we do not confess them, they still count against us. Our sole escape is through confession, acknowledging the ways we have wronged God. I want to discourage you, however, from launching a process of painstaking selfexamination, for the more you examine yourself, the less you will like yourself. God has provided an examiner: the Holy Spirit. Jesus said that when the Holy Spirit comes, He will convict us of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment. As John wrote in 1 John 5:17, “All unrighteousness is sin.” Anything that is not righteousness is, by default, sinful. The distinction is black and white, with no gray area; the Holy Spirit convicts us of anything that is not righteousness. The Holy Spirit does not, however, cause us to feel guilty; only Satan instills guilt and makes us doubt whether we have done enough to compensate forour sin.
