Derryfield varsity hosted Hanover High School this afternoon, but after finishing scoreless at the end of regulation, they suffered a heartbreaking loss in sudden victory overtime. Hanover scored the winner with just 3 minutes left on the clock, when a long hit got through the DS defense and one of their forwards ran onto it to score in a 1 on 1 with the home goalkeeper. The Cougars had their chances in regulation, forcing 12 penalty corners and 8 shots to Hanovers 6 penalty corners and 3 shots. The statistics tell the story! Once it gets to 7 on 7 overtime, with so much extra space on the field, anything can happen and the visitors took the opportunity. Derryfield is now 3-2 on the season and travel to St. Thomas Aquinas School , Dover on Thursday for their next game.
