: Describing 2014 as a very challenging year, General Officer Commanding (GOC), Northern Command, Lt Gen Sanjiv Chachra today pointed towards a possible Taliban threat to Jammu and Kashmir in wake ofwithdrawal of United States forces from Afghanistan.“As we know US is withdrawing army from Afghanistan it will also affect the state” he said and added that they were well prepared to face any situation.He also described 2014 as a very challenging year for security forces and said that they were anticipating more infiltration bids in the coming times.Talking to media persons on the sidelines of an Indian Army function at Akhnoor, he said: “obviously if there are problems and difficulties in neighboring country it will affect Jammu & Kashmir as well. We are professional and it is ourduty to prepare and take precautionary measures” he said.He said that the main challenge that thearmy faces was to control infiltration on Line of Control (LoC). “The militant camps across the border are still active. They have infrastructure and capability to disturb peace in the state” he said and added “If we control infiltration on Line of Control (LoC) and maintain peace internally the situation will remainnormal.He said that security grid has been tightened along the borders and every situation is being closely monitored by the Army.On revocation of Armed Force Special Powers Act (AFSPA), he toed the line of the Army chief saying that it was premature to go for that.“I reiterate statement of Army chief, let us proceed to peace as revocation of such act is premature”, he claimed.Responding on allegation of human right violations, he said it was being ensured that there would be no human rights violations and no collateral damage to the people during insurgencyoperations. “I have directed all commanders to make operation people friendly and warned disciplinary action against defaulters.”Replying to a query regarding Chinese incursion along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh region, Lt Gen Chachra said that there was peace and stability along the LAC. “We are patrolling at our perceptions and there isa very clear and comprehensive border mechanism put in place”, he added.He also refuted reports of migration along Indo- China border in Ladakh . There are no reports of migration from this side or from across the border he said.
