SAD CANDIDATES SON DIES: NO CONG VICTORY CELEBRATION Tuesday, 26 August 2014 | PNS | Chandigarh There were no victory celebrations for the Congress in Patiala as a mark of respect over the sad and untimely demise of SAD candidate Bhagwan Dass Junejas son, Gurpal Juneja, who died of cardiac arrest on late Sunday night. Juneja’s loss of Patiala Assembly seat turned out to be a double blow for him after he lost his eldest son at the age of 43. Gurpal was cremated on Monday in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister and SAD president Sukhbir Badal, Cabinet Ministers Bikram Majithia and Daljeet Singh Cheema along with hundreds of other mourners. Juenja was defeated by former Union Minister Preneet Kaur by a margin of over 23,200 votes. Cancelling all victory celebrations as a mark of respect for the departed soul, Preneet said that it was not the loss to Juneja family only but to everybody in Patiala as Gurpal was the son of the soil. Later, she attended the cremation while personally extending her condolences to the family. Her husband Capt Amarinder Singh, who is abroad, had also deputed his OSD Karanpal Sekhon to attended the cremation. Expressing profound grief and sorrow over the sad demise, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal prayed to the Almighty to grant strength to the bereaved family members, relatives and friends to bear this huge loss and eternal peace to the departed soul. Also mourning the demise, Congress Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha Capt Amarinder Singh and his wife Preneet Kaur said that they shared the grief of the family, and it was extremely sad and tragic that Gurpal had died at the prime of his youth.
