Designer Christian Wijnants Ready To Wear Spring 2015 Thursday, Sept. 25, 2014 In his spring collection, Christian Wijnants melded technical fabrics with traditional crafts. The Belgian designer said he was inspired by François Truffaut’s film “The Wild Child,” with its clash-of-civilizations theme. Other creations also carried a hint of French Indochina. Windbreakers and raincoats in glistening sailcloth were worn over sheer latex vests in tones ranging from natural to sky blue. Paired with culottes in neutral tones, they had a quietly steamy appeal — think Jane March as the precocious teenage heroine of “The Lover.” Wijnants used the contrasting textures to dial up or down the intensity of tropical greens, ranging from lime silk pants and culottes to a matte forest-green latex skirt. Off-kilter pairings also served to create tension within an outfit, such as a crocheted dress in an interlocking chain motif that exposed a rubber layer beneath. The subtly sensual designs had just the right amount of wild undertones.
