Designing Passive Houses in New Zealand is certainly easier than - TopicsExpress

Designing Passive Houses in New Zealand is certainly easier than in central Europe - at least in the warmer, coastal areas - but has some additional challenges. For entering data into PHPP (Passive House Planning Package), the otherwise brilliant tool for the design of Passive Houses, the geometry of the building needs to be mirrored along the line of the equator, and the months of the year need to be shifted. This is to emulate a building in the northern hemisphere. PHPP has unfortunately a hemispherical bias: its out-of-the-box applicability stops north of the equator. This mirroring and shifting makes mastering the Passive House Planning Package at the bottom of the world just a tad more complicated. But: help is here. Take a courses at the Passive House Academy! Join other successful candidates, and make Passive Houses continue their triumphal tour throughout Aotearoa.
