Despite all the attempts made by some terrorists masquerading as state government officials to prevent the Catholic Diocese of Maiduguri from publishing the list of Catholic Churches that have so far been affected by the premeditated boko haram insurgency, the list was eventually published today. Refer to The Good Shepherd Magazine of Oct. 12 - 18th 2014 edition, Pg. 15 for the full list. In all, a total of 187 Catholic Churches alone have so far been listed. We have not talked about other denominations like ECWA, LCCN, COCIN, and other pentecostal churches also affected. Recall that a Redeem pastor kidnapped since January this year recently escaped. This is an indication that there may be more still in captivity. It is now clear to any discerning mind that; aside the political dimension of this insurgency, the overriding motivation and objective is the total annihilation of Christians. No further proof is required in arriving at this incontrovertible conclusion. I have said it before and will continue to say it, the fate of the Christian minorities in the north is worst than that of salves. In fact, they are the most unfortunate human beings to ever work the face of the earth. They are marginalised in the area of employment, land distribution , admission and even life, just because they are Christians. No wonder, in that infamous speech recorded by the parrot newspaper, the instruction was that they should be used as a cannon fodder. Even chickens are killed mostly on special occasions. Bust these guys die everyday like flies.... We havent seen the numbers from Yobe, Adamawa, and other northern states who have made the killing of Christians and the destruction of Churches a yearly festival. In fact, I am sure they are making plans to declare public holidays to mark such days very soon. In all of these barbarity, the complicity or connivance of the state government cannot be entirely ruled out. How else can one explain their attempt at preventing the release of this list? Why are they not allowing the Churches to rebuild even when they have sourced outside help to do so? In most of these northern states, the sabon gari areas are the most underdeveloped. This is simply because they are occupied mainly by Christians. I dare anyone to challenge this fact! As a Catholic, I owe it as an obligation to these people to tell the world what they are facing. We have heard how people were burnt in the church, how men were slaughtered in the presence of their wives and children, how people were buried alive, how women and girls were raped, and other forms of unimaginable depravity, simply because they are Christians. It is only an incurable fool that wouldnt have noticed that; most of the communities attacked, including the now popular Chibok, are mostly Christian communities. I call on the international community, the UN and other world bodies, to as a matter of emergency, declare Christians in the north eastern part of Nigeria an endangered specie. They must also work assiduously to put all measures in place required to protect anything termed to be endangered. May God help us.
